 Eastern Wood Pewee
   Contopus virens

Status:

Occasional

 SP, F

Eastern Wood-Pewees have only been observed on campus during spring and fall, but potentially stay throughout summer. As the name suggests, they have a taste for woodsy habitat (more so than most other flycatchers except Acadian flycatchers), but can be found in grassy areas, as well. Similar in appearance to Eastern Phoebes, Eastern Wood-Pewees are distinguished by their bright orange lower mandibles.
