FURMAN FALLS TO DAVIDSON'S THREE-POINT GAME

BOX SCORE

DAVIDSON, North Carolina -- Davidson used outstanding three-point shooting and 25 Furman turnovers to parlay a 28-26 halftime lead into a 57-46 women’s basketball victory Wednesday night in Belk Arena.

Furman jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Cats 8-2 to start the game, but Davidson cam back, hitting a pair of first-period threes to get back in the game. Furman led 20-16 with 6:57 left in the half, but the Wildcats’ Katie Hamilton connected on three consecutive baskets to help Davidson outscore Furman 12-6 to end the period and take a 28-26 advantage into the locker room.

In the second period the Wildcats used a five-for-eight effort from beyond the three-point arc to solidify their advantage and outscored the Lady Paladins 29-20 for the final margin. Furman’s 46 points was its lowest total since scoring 35 against Auburn on Dec. 7, 2002.

Senior guard Deshara Shealey was the only Lady Paladin to score in double figures, putting up 10 points on a 4-of-10 effort from the field and a two-for-two night from the line. Hamilton was the Wildcats’ leading scoring, recording 15 points, while Meghan Bryant topped rebounding with 11.

With the win Davidson improves to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the Southern Conference, while Furman falls to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in league play. The Lady Paladins will host the College of Charleston Saturday, Jan. 17, in a 7 p.m. game at Timmons Arena. The game will be broadcast on CSS.
