Charlotte Baseball Rallied To Defeat Furman, 9-7

CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte scored seven runs in two innings as they rallied to defeat Furman, 9-7, in college baseball action.

Charlotte senior relief pitcher Michael Park recorded his first career win after pitching four and two thirds of scoreless baseball to finish the game.

Furman took an early 4-0 lead with four runs on three hits in the second inning. Danny Rueckel scored the game's first run on a Justin Maderer double down the leftfield line. Then, Richie Dean scored the inning's second run on an Adam Eterington sacrifice fly to leftfield. Maderer scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch. Then, Clint Hill scored the final run of the inning on a Brandon Barrett single to rightfield.

Charlotte cut the Furman lead to 4-1 with a run in the second inning. Thomas Bowker, who led off the inning with double to leftfield, scored on a Victor Puentes' infield groundout.

Furman increased their lead to 6-1 with two runs on three hits in the third inning. Rueckel scored the first run of the inning on a Richie Dean single to centerfield. Then, Dean scored the other run on a Maderer single to centerfield.

Charlotte made the score 6-2 with a run in the third inning. George Sandel scored on Brad Erwin's double to rightfield.

Furman increased their lead to 7-2 when Clint Hill scored on a Derek Norman single to leftfield in the fourth inning.

Charlotte cut the Furman lead to 7-6 with four runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Sandel, who tripled to right centerfield, scored the first run of the inning on a Furman fielding error. Then, Erwin and Thomas Bowker scored on Eric Shanks' single to centerfield. Then, Shanks scored the final run of the inning on Alex Derhak's double to rightfield.

Charlotte took the lead for good at 9-7 with three runs on five hits in the sixth inning. Sandel connected on a single to centerfield that scored Nick Blackmon and Brian Bowman with the tying and go-ahead runs. Then, Sandel scored on a Thomas Bowker single to rightfield with the final run of the game.

Furman will host Wofford in a three-game conference series this weekend starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
