Welcome!
I am Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures at Furman University in Greenville, SC, where I have taught all levels of Spanish language, literature, and culture since my arrival in 1991. A native of Euclid, Ohio, I first encountered Spanish peninsular literature in high school, ultimately going on to earn three degrees in Spanish (B.A. magna cum laude, Wake Forest University; M.A., Ph.D., University of Virginia). I love to teach undergraduates at all levels, and especially appreciate the opportunity for close student-teacher interactions afforded by Furman’s size and commitment to undergraduate education. I also have significant experience in academic administration, serving as Furman’s Assistant Academic Dean (1999-2001), Associate Academic Dean (2001-2009), and Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean (2006-2007). I returned to full-time teaching in Fall 2009, and have served as Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures since January, 2017.
