The Furman Forest

As a part of the Furman Forest initiative, Furman University faculty and students are conducting surveys of various taxonomic groups. This survey began in 2005 with permission of The Nature Conservancy. As surveys progress, we will activate the links for surveyed groups. Through this research, we hope to catalog the species that are present and track changes in populations of special concern. Birds were surveyed from June-August, 2011, by Megan Aprill (right)and Tara Smith (left) - Biology majors at Furman University - class of 2012. Most identifications were made from vocalizations. Most time was spent in woodland habitats; waterbird observations were largely in passing. Photographs were taken at Furman University by Jeff O'Connell, class of 2009. Scroll over the names to see pictures of the species.
