Grading:
Your grade in this course will be determined based on three criteria:
Collection (200 pts.): You will present 100 different insects,
representing 12 orders and 50 families. Twenty specimens must be identified to species.
Thirty completed specimens are due on May 18, for 60 of the 200 pts. Grading
will be based on correct ID and correct presentation and labeling.
Final (90 pts.): This will be a ‘practical’ exam, where there are stations set up around the room with insects on display, and you move from place to place and answer questions at each station.
Participation (10 pts): Attendance at class and labs is mandatory. For LAB, be prepared to work outside. Wear long pants and hiking boots or sturdy sneakers. Wear a long sleeved shirt and hat. Bring sunscreen and plenty to drink. Bring food, especially if you are hypoglycemic. Bring any repellants or epipens if you are allergic.
