THA 42/ COSTUME DESIGN/ CATERISANO
Course Objectives: To introduce the students to the principles of design and the objectives of Costume Design; to coax creativity and encourage practical problem solving skills; and to provide the means to communicate effectively with other members of a Production Team, visually and vocally.

Final Grade: Will be based on 4 class projects, a written costume review, and 4 quizzes for 75%; and final project for 25%.
Supplies: Paper/Medium to be discussed during the first weeks of class.
Class Projects:
Artists selected painting copied in the styles of four different artists/ renderings and research
Color emphasis with T-shaped Design / Antigone / swatched renderings and research notebook
Moliere for children / The Imaginary Invalid designed for 4th -6th graders / swatched renderings, research and costume plot
Low budget and time constraints/ Mother Courage under $200 / swatched renderings, research, costume plot and lists, and budget proposal
Written review: a written critique of costumes for the current Furman production
Final Project: Swatched renderings, costume plot, costume lists, budget proposal, and research notebook for your choice: Lysistrata, Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Lady Windermere’s Fan, The Cherry Orchard or Arcadia.
