INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE AND DRAMA
Texts: Theatre: Brief Version by Robert Cohen, 7th Edition.
The Bedford Introduction to Drama (5th edition) by Lee A. Jacobus
Policies: University attendance policies will be enforced.
Attendance is required at a performance of the Furman Theatre Department’s current production. A 4 - 6 page typed review will be due shortly after the show closes.
Work in the Production Lab/Creative Project area is also required. Every student will be required to make presentation to the class on the work done for the Production or the Creative Project.
Learning Objectives:
The objectives of this course are to introduce the students to the nature of theatre as a living art; to work toward an appreciation of major dramatic works of different periods, cultures, and genres; to gain an understanding of the responsibilities and the collaborative function of the principal theatre artists; to challenge and exercise the creative aptitudes inherent in the student; to develop the students critical ability to evaluate a work of performing art; and to introduce the student to each of the areas represented by other drama courses.
