FURMAN'S CHAN GETS FIRST CAREER VICTORY WITH 3-0 WIN OVER WOFFORD
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Head Furman volleyball coach Keylor Chan earned the first victory of his young head coaching career Wednesday night when the Lady Paladins defeated conference-foe Wofford 15-5, 15-8, 15-4 in Timmons Arena to improve to 1-3 on the year and 1-0 in the Southern Conference.
Freshman Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) scored a team-high 16 kills and hit .519 on the night, while reigning Southern Conference Player of the Year Brooke Jackson (Coral Springs, Fla.) tallied 10 kills. In addition, freshman Abby Simon (Simpsonville, S.C.) added nine kills, nine digs, and a service ace to the Furman effort. For the match, the Lady Paladins hit .323 with 47 kills, seven aces, and three team blocks.
Wofford freshman Currie Gosset (Mauldin, S.C.) led the Terrier attack with nine kills, while Molly Bushong (Lexington, Ky.) and Jennifer Jackson (Spartanburg, S.C.) each claimed seven digs. As a team, the Terriers hit .032 with two aces and one team block. With the loss Wofford fell to 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in the Southern Conference.
The Lady Paladins will face Florida Atlantic Saturday at the Jacksonville Invitational. Furman's next home match is Tuesday, Sept. 14, against UNC Greensboro. Match time is 7 p.m.
