FURMAN DOWNS UNCG TO EVEN RECORD

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team scored a 15-9, 11-15, 15-13, 15-12 victory over UNC Greensboro Tuesday night to improve to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference.

Junior Brooke Jackson (Coral Springs, Fla.) tallied a team-high 23 kills to lead Furman's offensive effort, while freshman Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) added 17 and sophomores Anna Roberts (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Amber VandeStreek (Kalamazoo, Mich.) each scored 11. In addition, sophomore setter Laura Hooks (Kingsport, Tenn.) was eight for nine in attacks and recorded 58 assists with 14 digs. As a team, Furman hit .201 while holding the Spartans to a .096 attack percentage.

The UNCG Spartans were led by Samika Hawkins' 12 kills, with 11 by Becky Moore and 10 by Rayna Taylor. Taylor and Katie MacPhail topped net defense with five blocks each, while Taylor added a team-high 18 digs. With the loss, UNCG falls to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Furman's Thursday night match at the College of Charleston has been postponed due to Hurricane Floyd. The Lady Paladins will play Illinois State and Clemson Saturday at the Clemson Invitational.
