FURMAN VOLLEYBALL TEAM SPLITS MATCHES AT JACKSONVILLE INVITATIONAL
JACKSONVILLE, Florida -- Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team moved to 2-4 on the year Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Florida Atlantic followed by a five-game, 3-2 victory over Coastal Carolina.
Furman's Lady Paladin team hit .211 versus FAU and recorded 51 digs in the three-game match, but lost close 15-10, 15-12 decisions, before dropping the final game 15-6. Despite the loss, Beth Pyles (Hendersonville, N.C.) tallied 11 digs, while Brooke Jackson (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) each managed nine kills.
In the second match of the day Furman got off to a slow start, losing 15-8 and 15-3 in the first two games. In game three, however, the Lady Paladins hit .405 with 19 kills to take a 15-12 decision, then added wins of 15-7 and 15-6 to take a victory in the first five-game match of the year. Jackson scored 19 kills while sophomore Amber VandeStreek (Kalamazoo, Mich.) tallied 17. Rowley added 13 and sophomore Anna Roberts (Brentwood, Tenn.) managed 10. The Lady Paladin hits .304 with 84 digs and 11 service aces.
Furman will face the hosting Dolphins of Jacksonville in a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.
