FURMAN VOLLEYBALL DOWNS APPALACHIAN STATE 3-0

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman Volleyball team evened its Southern Conference record Tuesday night at Timmons Arena, with a 15-9, 15-5, 15-8 win over the Mountaineers of Appalachian State.

Freshman Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) scored 14 kills and hit .481 to lead the Lady Paladins offensively, while senior Kristy Wilson (Kalamazoo, Mich.) topped the team with 12 digs. Furman hit .295 for the match, including a .583 percentage in game two.

The Mountaineers were paced by sophomores Claire Reynolds (Columbia, S.C.) and Karen Nielson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), who each tallied nine kills. Christi Wendell (Port Charlotte, Fla.) compiled a team high 10 digs.

In addition to outhitting ASU .295 to .076, the Paladins totaled seven team blocks to the Mountaineers' five and totaled 47 digs to Appalachian's 35.

With the win, Furman improves to 7-10 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Conference, while Appalachian State falls to 3-9 and 3-5. The Lady Paladins are in action again on Saturday, October 10, when they host the Eagles of Georgia Southern.
