Furman Downs Wofford 3-2 on the Road

 

Abby Simon recorded 16 kills and 22 digs to lead Furman to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wofford Tuesday night in the Benjamin Johnson Arena in Spartanburg.

Wofford (2-15, 1-7) looked to have the match in hand after it won game three, 15-12, to take a 2-1 lead.  However, Furman (10-10, 6-3) took a 10-0 lead in game four and went on to even the match after winning the fourth game 15-6. Simon scored five straight points for Furman to break open a tight game in the fifth and deciding game.  Wofford came back to tie the game 12-12.  Wofford took a 14-13 lead, but Simon again put a kill down to tie the match and lead Furman to the 18-16 win in the fifth game and the match.            

Currie Gossettled the Lady Terrier cause with 13 kills and 11 total blocks.  Cristy Carterand Janna Webbadded 16 kills each for Wofford. Brooke Jackson and Laura Bushtallied 19 and 15 kills, respectively, for Furman.            

Wofford travels to UNC Greensboro Friday for a 7:00 p.m. Southern Conference match, while the Paladins face the College of Charleston on the road Wednesday night.
