LADY PALADIN DROP SEASON OPENER 3-0 TO SOUTH FLORIDA


TAMPA, Florida -- Playing host to the 2000 South Florida Invitational, the USF volleyball team started its season aggressively on Friday night in the Corral, beating Furman 3-0 (15-8, 15-4, 15-8).

As a team, the Bulls posted 50 kills and 10 service aces during the hour and twenty-minute match. Dominant leaders for USF were Rachelle Paul and Michelle Collier, who together notched 29 kills. Along with her 17 kills, Collier also tallied six service aces. Paul recorded a team-high .375 hitting percentage.

The Lady Paladins of Furman were led by Abby Simon and Laura Bush, a pair of sophomores who each totaled seven kills. Freshman Amber Montague and junior setter Laura Hooks led the defensive effort with 13 kills each, while Carrie Rowley and Shawn Beckham each totaled 12.

The Lady Paladins will face Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a 4 p.m. match against Boston College.
