SOCON VOLLEYBALL COACHES VOTE DAVIDSON AS TOP FINISH IN PRESEASON POLL;
FURMAN PICKED THIRD

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina -- The Southern Conference volleyball coaches have selected Davidson to repeat as the regular season championn in 2000. Davidson received six of the 11 first place votes from league coaches.

Davdison won the regular season crown with a 20-0 record in 1999. The Wildcats won their first conference tournament match in history with a 3-0 decision over UNC Greensboro en route to winning the championship. Davidson advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to Nebraska 3-0.

The Wildcats received six first place votes and four second place votes, while Chattanooga received three first place votes and Furman and ETSU each earning one.

The volleyball season begins Friday, September 1, with most teams in tournament play. Georgia Southern and College of Charleston open the conference schedule on Tuesday, September 5, at 7 p.m. in Charleston.
