FURMAN VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS EAST TENNESSEE STATE, 3-0

Paladins out-hit Bucs .448 to .101

GREENVILLE, SCFour Paladins players hit over .400 to lead Furman to a 3-0 win over East Tennessee State in college volleyball action at Timmons Arena on Saturday evening. Sophomore Shawn Beckham (Summerville, SC) led the team with a .556 attack percentage, recording 11 kills and six digs, while freshman Amber Montague (Plano, TX) hit .526 with 11 kills and six digs.

The two teams battled through a close first game, with Furman taking a 15-9 victory. The Paladins only allowed one point over the next two games, winning game two 15-1 and game three 15-0, to avenge a 3-2 loss earlier this season to the Bucs in Johnson City.

Furman sophomore Abby Simon (Simpsonville, SC) recorded a .467 attack percentage, tallying seven kills and seven digs, while sophomore Laura Bush (Kingsport, TN) hit .400 with seven kills, six assists and four blocks. Junior setter Laura Hooks (Kingsport, TN) led the team with 32 assists and 14 digs, while recording three block assists. Sophomore Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Pt., FL) had seven kills, seven digs and a .313 attack percentage in the win.

The Paladins will travel to Davidson on Tuesday for a match between the top two teams in the Southern Conference. The match begins at 7 p.m. Furman's next home match is Monday, November 6, when the Paladins will face Western Carolina at 7 p.m. in Timmons Arena.
