CLEMSON VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS FURMAN, 3-0
Paladins and Tigers Battle in Three Close Games

GREENVILLE, SC‹Junior Jodi Steffes (Elwood, IL) hit .436 with 19 kills to lead Clemson to a 3-0 win over Furman in college volleyball action at Timmons Arena on Tuesday night. Sophomore Abby Simon (Simpsonville, SC) led the Paladins in the match, hitting .417 with 14 kills and 12 digs.

Furman jumped out to an early lead in all three matches. In game one, the Paladins built a 6-2 advantage, then held on to the lead until the Tigers tied the game at 10-10. Clemson won game one 15-11. Furman again built a lead in game two, but the Tigers came back for a 15-8 win. Game three was a battle back and forth, and the two teams were tied at 11 points apiece before Clemson pulled away to win game three 15-12.

For the Paladins, sophomore middle blocker Shawn Beckham (Summerville, SC) recorded a .281 attack percentage and 14 kills. Sophomore Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Pt., FL) had 11 kills and 11 digs, while junior setter Laura Hooks (Kingsport, TN) tallied 43 assists and 13 digs. Clemson freshman Kiki Dallao (Arlington, TX) recorded 18 digs and 10 kills and hit .308 for the evening. Sophomore setter Jessi Betcher (Boulder, CO) tallied 41 assists and nine digs in the win.

Clemson improves to 10-13 overall, while Furman moves to 8-13. The Paladins look to pull away from the pack in the Southern Conference this weekend when they face Appalachian State on Friday at Timmons Arena at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Furman will face East Tennessee State at home at 5 p.m.
