Furman Places Three on All-Conference Team
Furman dropped a three-game decision to Davidson Sunday at the Southern Conference Volleyball championships at John Kresse Arena in Charleston, SC. The Wildcats defeated Furman 3-0 (15-12, 15-13, 15-8) for their second consecutive tournament title.
The Lady Paladins scored three quick points in game one before Davidson came back and tied the match. The two teams exchanged points before the Wildcats pulled ahead 11-7. Davidson took a 14-8 lead and after exchanging sideouts, Furman broke the cycle, scoring four unanswered points before the Wildcats took game one 15-12. Furman scored three straight once again in the second game with Davidson tying the match before the Lady Paladins took a 5-3 lead.
The Wildcats came on, tying the game at 5-5 before Furman took a 10-6 lead. With a 12-8 Lady Paladin lead, Davidson came back to tie the match at 13 before taking game two 15-13 for a 2-0 lead in the match. Davidson took a commanding 6-1 lead in game three before Furman added three points and set the score at 7-4. Furman rebounded to cut the lead to one but the Wildcats scored three unanswered for a 10-6 lead. With a 14-7 lead, Davidson exchanged sideouts with Furman before the Lady Paladins broke the stalemate but Davidson held on to win the final game 15-8 and the match 3-0.
Mara Mordini led the Wildcats with 15 kills and 12 digs while Roberta Quis recorded 14 kills. Erica Schwartz added 19 digs and 43 assists.
Carrie Rowley led Furman with 11 kills and 26 digs while Abby Simon recorded 13 kills and 11 digs. Furman ends its season with a 18-17 record.
Davidson (24-11) advances to the NCAA Tournament and await the announcement of its opponent on Sunday, November 26th.
