FURMAN VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON IN CONFERENCE HOME OPENER

Greenville, South Carolina--The Furman volleyball team needed only three games to win its first Southern Conference match of the season on Monday, defeating College of Charleston by scores of 15-8, 15-10, 15-6.

The Lady Paladins were paced offensively in game one of the match by Laura Hooks with a 1.000 hitting percentage on two kills, and Abby Simon's .429 hitting percentage on three kills. Freshman Amber Montague posted a game high five digs in the Lady Paladins' defensive effort. The Cougars were led offensively by Elizabeth Gury's 7 kills and .333 hitting percentage, while defensively, Heather Bingham posted six digs.

Game two of the match was fueled by Laura Hooks' .500 hitting percentage, while the team posted a match high hitting percentage of .302.

The Lady Paladins ended the match with a 15-6 victory over Charleston in game three. Furman was led offensively by Shawn Beckham's 3 kills and .600 hitting percentage, while a team defensive effort led by Abby Simon's three digs shut down the Cougars. With the win, Furman advances to 2-10 on the season, while starting 1-0 in Southern Conference action. The Cougars move to 6-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Southern Conference.

Furman will be in action again on Wednesday, as they travel to Spartanburg to face the Terriers of Wofford, in more Southern Conference play.
