FURMAN VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS GEORGIA SOUTHERN, 3-0

Sophomore Laura Bush hits .517 in Paladin win

GREENVILLE, SCSophomore Laura Bush (Kingsport, TN) hit .517 with 16 kills, one error and 29 attempts to lead the Furman volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Georgia Southern on Friday night. The Paladins hit .293 as a team in the 15-10, 15-6, 15-12 victory. With the win, Furman improves to 15-16 overall and 14-5 in the Southern Conference. Georgia Southern drops to 11-18 overall and 5-14 in league play.

Paladin sophomore Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Pt., FL) recorded a .387 attack percentage with 14 kills and six digs, while freshman Amber Montague (Plano, TX) tallied 12 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Shawn Beckham (Summerville, SC) had 11 kills, 11 digs and five blocks, and junior setter Laura Hooks (Kingsport, TN) recorded 48 assists and 10 digs in the win.

Georgia Southern setter Amanda Brooks (Bourbonnais, IL) set a new Eagle career assist record, tallying 42 assists on the evening. She now has 3,259 assists for her career, breaking the previous record of 3,224 held by Jennifer McNally. Eagle sophomore Lauren McClain (Scottsdale, AZ) hit .393 with 15 kills and 11 digs, and freshman Erin Martin (La Mesa, CA) had 13 kills in the loss. Freshman Megan Lippi (Sandpoint, ID) had 11 kills and 14 digs on the evening.

The Paladins will face Wofford on Monday at 7 p.m. at Timmons Arena.
