Erica Schwartz Leads Davidson Volleyball to 3-0 Win Over Furman

GREENVILLE, SCJunior setter Erica Schwartz hit .417 with six kills and added 44 assists to lead the Davidson volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Furman on Friday night at Timmons Arena. Wildcat senior Mara Mordini tallied 16 kills and 18 digs in the win, while sophomore Roberta Quis hit .435 with 13 kills.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 12-7 overall and 8-2 in the Southern Conference. The Paladins drop to 8-12 overall and 7-2 in the league.

The two teams battled back and forth in game one before the Wildcats took a 15-12 victory. Davidson jumped out to a 12-2 lead in game two, then Furman battled back to cut the lead to 12-11. The Wildcats then scored four-straight points for the 15-11 win. The Paladins took a 5-0 lead in game three, but Davidson rallied back. The teams battled back and forth before the Wildcats took the third game 15-13.

Freshman Abby Simon (Simpsonville, SC) led Furman with 18 kills, 13 digs and a .342 attack percentage. Sophomore Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Pt., Fla.) had 12 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore Laura Bush (Kingsport, Tenn.) added 12 digs and eight kills. Junior Laura Hooks (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the team with 48 assists.

Furman will face UNC Greensboro on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Timmons Arena.
