FURMAN VOLLEYBALL DOWNS WOFFORD 3-0
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman volleyball team got double digit kills from Whitney Purser, Julia Fredrickson and Ally Hock on its way to a 32-30, 31-29, 30-23 victory over Wofford Wednesday night at Timmons Arena.
The Lady Paladins looked to put game one away after leading 29-28, but Wofford rallied to a 30-29 advantage and game point situation. Furman answered with three straight points to take the first game 32-30.
In game two, Wofford jumped out to a 27-23 lead only to see Furman rally for a 31-29 victory. The Paladins put the match away in less dramatic fashion in game three, scoring a 30-23 victory to improve to 11-10 overall and 6-1 in Southern Conference play. The loss drops Wofford to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the league.
Fredrickson paced the Lady Paladin attack with 11 kills, while freshmen Purser and Hock chipped in 10 each. Freshman Kim Tonkin, subbing at setter with Michelle Cauldwell injured and Molly Rybak out with mono, contributed 42 assists and five kills in six attack attempts for Furman. Caitlin White led the Lady Paladins in digs with 11.
Andrea Duke led the Terrier attack with a match-high 14 kills and five digs. Setter Rhea deJesus added 41 assists.
Furman returns to action Friday when it travels to Davidson for a 7:00p.m. match with the Wildcats.
