FURMAN OUTLASTS WOFFORD 3-2 IN SOCON OPENER


SPARTANBURG, South Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team won its third five-game match of the year Wednesday night, defeating the Wofford Terriers 30-28, 26-30, 30-25, 19-30, 15-10 in both teams' Southern Conference opener.

Julia Fredrickson led the Lady Paladin attack with 12 kills while Rosey Cashman topped the digs category, with 15. In addition, sophomore Caitlin White scored five blocks on the night and Michelle Cauldwell served up four aces. The Lady Paladins stuggled with the serve however, recording 21 service errors and an anemic .075 hitting percentage.

The Terriers of Wofford were paced on the night by Andrea Duke, who recorded 22 kills and a .237 hitting percentage. Setter Rhe deJesus totaled 42 assists and Lindsay Lyman tallied 12 digs, while Katie Laser put down five blocks.

With the win, the Lady Paladins improved to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in the Southern Conference. Furman is in action again this Friday night at the University of Georgia Invitational.
