WHITE LEADS LADY PALADINS TO 3-0 SOCON VICTORY
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Sophomore middle hitter Caitlin White recorded 11 kills, a .556 hitting percentage, two service aces and six blocks Tuesday night in leading the Furman volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over the Spartans of UNC Greensboro.
White was barely a factor in game one, recording only one kill and no blocks, while freshman Ally Hock, the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week, recorded six kills and a .667 hitting percentage. The Lady Paladins outhit the Spartans .317 to .204 and recorded 19 digs to UNCG’s 15 in winning game one 30-26.
In game two White began to heat up, tallying six kills on seven attempts (.857) and putting down five blocks as Furman held the Spartans to -.143 hitting and recorded a 30-17 win.
Game three featured both White and fellow middle blocker Julia Fredrickson as each recorded four kills and White served up her two aces on the night, leading the Lady Paladins to another 30-26 decision.
While White and Fredrickson were taking care of business on the offensive side, freshman Whitney Purser anchored the defense, recording 18 digs while serving up three service aces in the match. Purser also added 10 kills and hit .333 for the night.
The Spartans were paced by LaJean Morrow’s nine kills and Kim Dayton’s eight digs, while Lauren Richards totaled a team-high three blocks.
With the victory the Lady Paladins improve to 14-12 overall and 9-3 in the Southern Conference, while UNCG falls to 7-15 overall and 3-7 in league play.
