FURMAN VOLLEYBALL MOVES TO 3-0 IN SOUTHERN CONFERENCE
Greensboro, NC - The Furman volleyball team defeated UNCG 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Fleming Gym. With the win, the Lady Paladins improved to 7-9 overall, 3-0 in SoCon action.
In game one, UNCG notched out an early 11-10 lead following a kill by freshman Hilary Overby. Furman regained the lead at 12-11 and pushed out to an 18-15 advantage. The Spartans rallied, however, to close the gap to 18-17 on a kill by senior Kim Dayton. A kill by Amber Montague ended the Spartan rally, as the Paladins took game one, 30-23. After dropping game two, 30-23, UNCG looked strong at the outset of game three taking an early 2-1 lead. The two teams then traded points with Furman taking a slim 11-10 lead. The Spartans responded with a thunderous kill from Dayton to once again knot the score, 11-11. An ace by Ally Hock put the Paladins up again, 20-17, en route to the 30-25 win.
Julia Fredrickson recorded a match-high 16 kills to pace the Paladin attack. Amber Montague chipped in with nine kills, while Molly Rybak tallied 27 assists.
The Lady Paladins will face Elon Sunday in a 2 p.m. match.
