FURMAN VOLLEYBALL TAKES 3-1 MARATHON WIN OVER ELON

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Four Lady Paladins recorded double-digit kills on Saturday, as the Furman volleyball team took a 29-31, 30-26, 30-27, 35-33 victory over the Elon Phoenix in Timmons Arena.

Furman led game one 19-16, but Elon kept pounding away and went on a 12-9 run to finally win the game on an Ally Hock attack error.

In game two, the Lady Paladins came back to take an early 5-2 lead on a kill by Whitney Purser, but the Phoenix rose again and tied the match at 11 before taking a 12-11 lead on an Emily Hayes kill. Eventually, after nine tie scores and six lead changes the Lady Paladins evened the match 1-1 on a kill by Hock.

Furman took an early 9-0 lead in game three, but Elon was not to be discounted, as the Phoenix continued to bounce back and tied the game at 18. The Lady Paladins held on for the 30-27 win, outhitting Elon .216 to .088 in the game.

Game four was the closest of the four, ending in a 35-33 Furman victory. The Lady Paladins hit just .129 in the game, but seven Elon service errors and two Lady Paladin aces combined to give Furman the win.

The Phoenix were led for the day by Emily Hayes, who totaled 28 kills and a .239 hitting percentage. Furman was led by Amber Montague, who scored 19 kills, Caitlin White’s 13, and Julia Fredrickson and Ally Hock, who each totaled 12.

With the win, Furman improves to 15-13 overall and 10-4 in the league, while Elon falls to 13-15 and 6-7. T
