LADY PALADIN VOLLEYBALL SCORES 3-1 VICTORY OVER ELON


ELON, North Carolina -- The Furman volleyball team recorded a 25-30, 30-22, 30-21, 30-23 victory over Elon on Sunday to improve to 8-9 overall and 4-0 in Southern Conference action this season. The victory over the Phoenix followed a 3-0 win on Saturday over the UNC Greensboro Spartans, and puts Furman at the top of the South Division in the race for the 2003 Southern Conference title.

Furman’s victory over Elon was set up by a strong service game which garnered 14 aces for the Lady Paladins in the match. Freshmen Liz Hilliker and Whitney Purser and senior setter Michelle Cauldwell each served up four aces to lead the Lady Paladins, while Molly Rybak and Ally Hock each added one.

On the offensive side, Furman was led by junior Julia Fredrickson, who totaled 12 kills on the day and senior Amber Montague who added 10. Fredrickson also topped the squad in block assists, with three, while sophomore middle blocker Caitlin White totaled three block solos on the match.

The Lady Paladins return home to Timmons Arena this Wednesday night, with a 6 p.m. match against UNC Asheville. Furman is also at home next weekend, hosting a 7 p.m. Friday night match against The Citadel, and a 2 p.m. Saturday contest versus College of Charleston.
