FURMAN VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT DAVIDSON 3-2
DAVIDSON, North Carolina -- The Furman volleyball team jjumped out to a 2-1 lead, but could not hold on as Davidson rallied for a 31-29, 32-34, 26-30, 30-28, 15-12 victory over the Lady Paladins Friday night at Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C.
Senior Latisha Chapman contributed 28 kills, including her 1,000th career kill, to lead the Wildcats to the come from behind win.
After losing game one, Furman rallied for a 34-32 win in game two and cruised to an easy 30-26 margin in game three. Davidson had to use all four of its game points in game four, but held off Furman 30-28.
Furman took a quick 4-1 lead in the decisive game only to see Davidson storm back to a 13-10 lead. The Lady Paladins trimmed the margin to 13-12 before the Wildcats pulled away for the victory.
The loss drops Furman to 11-11 overall and 6-2 in league play, while Davidson improves to 9-12 overall and 2-3 in the Southern Conference.
In game two, Wofford jumped out to a 27-23 lead only to see Furman rally for a 31-29 victory. The Paladins put the match away in less dramatic fashion in game three, scoring a 30-23 victory to improve to 11-10 overall and 6-1 in Southern Conference play. The loss drops Wofford to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the league.
Freshman Whitney Purser paced the Lady Paladins with career-highs of 25 kills and 18 digs, while Amber Montague chipped in 23 kills and 16 digs.
Furman returns to action on Sunday when it travels to face Georgia Southern.
