COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON MOVES LEAGUE WIN STREAK TO 25 WITH 3-0 VICTORY OVER FURMAN

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman volleyball team, previously unbeaten in the Southern Conference this year, met its match on Saturday in a 3-0 loss to the College of Charleston in Timmons Arena.

The Cougars had five hitters with double digit kills, including 12 by Stephanie Ballard and Sara Davis. In addition, libero Marie Dobrenz paced all players with 21 digs and the team recorded 6.0 blocks to Furman’s 4.0.

The Lady Paladins were led by Amber Montague and Caitlin White, who each recorded seven kills, while Rosey Cashman topped the defense with eight digs.

Game one was characterized by four ties and three lead changes that eventually resulted in a 30-24 C of C win, but in the second game the Cougars made an early run and never looked back, taking a 30-15 victory. Game three was decided at 30-21, with Furman hitting a match-best .278, but the College of Charleston recorded a stellar .500 hitting percentage to solidly defeat the Lady Paladins.

With the loss Furman falls to 10-10 overall and 4-1 in the Southern Conference, while the College of Charleston moves to 11-4 overall and 4-0. C of C also kept intact a Southern Conference win streak that dates back to Sept. 20, 2002, and is now 25 matches strong.
