LADY PALADINS TOP THE CITADEL 3-0 IN SOCON VOLLEYBALL ACTION; HOST COUGARS IN KEY MATCH ON SATURDAY
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Junior middle blocker Julia Fredrickson paced the Lady Paladin volleyball team to a 30-25, 30-16, 30-23 victory over The Citadel Friday night in Southern Conference action at Timmons Arena.
Fredrickson tallied a team-high 15 kills on the night, including shots that ended games one and two, and hit an impressive .480 against the Bulldog defense. In addition, senior Amber Montague put down 13 kills , while freshman Whitney Purser and sophomore Molly Rybak paced the team in digs, with nine each. The Lady Paladins also served up 12 service aces on the night, while giving up just three.
The Citadel Bulldogs were paced by sophomore Samantha Parisi, who totaled seven kills, and a team-best nine digs. Middle blocker Marina Daniel accounted for two of the Bulldogs’ four block assists on the night.
With the victory, the Lady Paladins improved to 10-9 overall and 5-0 in the Southern Conference, while The Citadel fell to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Lady Paladins will face the Cougars of the College of Charleston on Saturday in a 2 p.m. match in Timmons Arena. The Cougars are also undefeated in Southern Conference play this year and are riding a 23-match Southern Conference win streak, dating back to Sept. 20, 2002, when Furman handed C of C a 3-2 loss in Timmons Arena.
