Lady Paladins Down Chattanooga In Four

Chattanooga, Tenn.-- Three Furman Paladins recorded double-doubles as Chattanooga dropped a four-game volleyball match to Furman Saturday afternoon at Maclellan Gym 22-30, 30-27, 30-26, 30-23.

Chattanooga (8-20 overall, 4-13 SoCon) won the first game handily, but Furman (18-12, 13-5) roared back to take the final three games behind Amber Montague (19 kills, 10 digs), Laura Bush (17 and 10) and Abby Simon (13 and 25).

UTC got a dozen kills and a season-high 27 digs from Kari Krouse, while Jody Steinberger contributed 11 kills and 15 digs. Lindsey Galloway picked up a game-high 28 digs and Emily McGinnis had 42 assists. Tracie Grant had seven kills and was in one five blocks. Kelley Smith had nine kills and was in on four blocks.

In game one, UTC hit .298 as a team with Krouse and Steinberger combining for nine kills. Krouse had a dozen digs in the first game. In the second game, Furman led 27-21 before UTC rallied to within 28-26, but back-to-back kills by Bush ended the game.

In the third game, Montague had 10 kills and Simon and Carrie Rowley combined for 17 digs as Furman hit .276 as a team. In the fourth game, Furman held a commanding lead early and it ballooned to double-digits (22-10). UTC clawed to within four points (26-22), but the Paladins closed the deal with Simon picking up six kills and Rowley nine digs.

Chattanooga plays its final home game Sunday at 2 p.m. at Maclellan Gym against Wofford, while Furman travels to Western Carolina for a 2 p.m. date.
