Furman's Simon Named To Verizon Academic All-District Team

Greenville, S.C. ­ Lady Paladin volleyball standout Abby Simon has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III volleyball team for the second straight year, it was announced Thursday.

Simon who boasts a 3.80 GPA in political science, leads the Lady Paladins in kills this season (442) and ranks second on Furman's all-time kills list with 1,524. The Simpsonville, S.C., native is a two-time All-Southern Conference honoree and a three-time Academic All-Conference selection.

As a senior, Simon has paced the Lady Paladins to a 19-13 overall record and 14-5 Southern Conference mark.

Simon is joined on the six member first team by College of Charleston's Stephanie Ballard, North Carolina State's Rebecca Anderson, Winthrop's Jennifer Pritchard and Malaika Underwood of North Carolina.

Furman closes out the 2002 regular season when it hosts first place Georgia Southern on Senior Day at 2:00p.m. Saturday. The Lady Paladins will honor seniors Abby Simon, Laura Bush, Whitney Jones and Carrie Powley prior to the match.
