FURMAN VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON FRIDAY AT WILLIAM & MARY

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team will open the 2002 season Friday at the William & Mary Hi-IQ Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.

The Lady Paladins will face the Bulldogs of Fresno State Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the first official Furman athletic event of the 2002-03 season. At 3:00 p.m., Furman will face Radford, with matches against East Carolina and William & Mary slated for Saturday.

Coming off a 16-12 season in 2001, Furman will be paced by All-Southern Conference selections Abby Simon (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Laura Bush (Kingsport, Tenn.). Furman also returns starters Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Point, Fla.), Amber Montague (Plano, Texas), Rosey Cashman (Faribault, Minn.) and Julia Fredrickson (Dallas, Texas).

The Lady Paladins will open their home slate next Friday, September 6, when they host the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Invitational, featuring Gardner-Webb, Ohio University, and UNC Wilmington.
