FURMAN VOLLEYBALL EVENS RECORD WITH 3-1 VICTORY OVER RADFORD

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia -- Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team evened its record at 1-1 Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Radford in the William & Mary Hi-IQ Tournament.

Furman dropped the season opener 3-0 to Fresno State early Friday, but bounced back to win 30-22, 30-28, 22-30, 30-16 in the 3 p.m. match.

Abby Simon (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Amber Montague (Plano, Texas) paced the Lady Paladin offense with 14 kills each, while Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) totaled a team-high 15 digs. Simon hit .423 on the match and added two block assists, while sophomore Julia Fredrickson (Dallas, Texas) recorded a Furman-best four block assists on the match.

The Lady Paladins not only outhit Radford 51 kills to 35, they tallied 15 service aces to the Highlanders' 12, including six for Rowley, which ties the senior's career high.

The Lady Paladins will play East Carolina Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by a 3 p.m. match against the host Tribe of William & Mary.
