FURMAN, OHIO, TAKE FOUR-GAME VICTORIES

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- In preparation for tonightıs showdown between Furman and Ohio, each team picked up four-game victories in the morning session at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Invitational.

Furman started the day with a 30-28, 25-30, 30-25, 30-21 win over the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington. Abby Simon (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) each recorded 20 kills in the victory, while Laura Bush (Kingsport, Tenn.) added 15. In addition, Rowley and Julia Fredrickson (Dallas, Texas) recorded 12 digs each, while Fredrickson added tw

o block solos and a block assist to pace the teamıs net defense. Setter Michelle Cauldwell (Satellite Beach, Fla.) totaled 55 assists and served up three aces. The Seahawks were paced by Jennifer Maisı 13 kills and .333 attack percentage. Defensively, UNCW was led by Jodi Bartmanıs 15 digs and Maisı four block assists. Bea Gerevich totaled 40 assists on the match.

With the win Furman improves to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Invitational, while UNCW falls to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the tournament.

In the dayıs second match, the Bobcats of Ohio outdid Gardner-Webb 30-13, 28-30, 30-17, 30-16.

Setter Briana Adamovsky paced the Bobcats with 25 assists, four kills, three service aces and two block assists in the victory. Katie Smith led the Ohio attack with ten kills while also contributing ten digs. Kristie Brinkley recorded 12 kills for the Gardner-Webb and Melanie Custer chipped in 25 digs for the Bulldogs.

The win improved Ohio to 5-0 on the season while Gardner-Webb fell to 1-6. The Holiday Inn Express Invitational concludes with UNC Wilmington vs. Gardner-Webb at 4:00 p.m. and Furman vs. Ohio at 6:00p.m.
