Clemson Outlasts Furman Volleyball 3-2
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman Lady Paladin volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but Clemson held on in the fifth game for a 30-21, 30-20, 26-30, 28-30, 15-13 win Tuesday night at Timmons Arena. The loss snapped the Lady Paladins' three match win streak as Clemson stayed unbeaten in the all-time series versus Furman. Four Clemson players tallied double figure kills, led by Ryane Beasley's 17 kills. Lori Ashton added 13 kills, and Marija Zoric had 12 kills with seven blocks (one solo). Leslie Finn recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Jessi Betcher handed out 55 assists with 14 digs and eight kills. Furman was paced by Laura Bush's 20 kills, 405 hitting percentage and four blocks. Carrie Rowley (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) added 16 kills with 18 digs, and Amber Montague (Plano, Texas) had 12 kills with three blocks (one solo). Abby Simon (Simpsonville, S.C.) had 11 kills, and Michelle Cauldwell Satellite Beach, Fla.) tallied 56 assists. Furman Head coach Michelle Young was honored prior to Tuesday's match for being named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's 50th Anniversary team last month. Clemson coach Jolene Hoover, Young's college coach at Clemson, presented the Furman coach with a certificate of recognition from the ACC. Young was the 1997 ACC Tournament MVP leading Clemson to its first-ever ACC championship. The loss drops the Lady Paladins to 8-8 on the season, while Clemson improves to 9-6. Furman will host Southern Conference rival Chattanooga at 2:00p.m. on Saturday at Timmons Arena
