Furman Volleyball Downs Appalachian State 3-1

BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian volleyball team battled back from two games down but was unable to sustain its momentum as it was defeated by Furman 30-24, 30-21, 33-35, 30-27 at the Holmes Convocation Center.

The Mountaineers (8-10, 2-4 SoCon) were led by Katherine Dean (Clemson, S.C.) and Kali Rumberger (Spokane, Wash.) Dean registered 14 kills in the match. Rumberger added 13 kills and 13 digs in the effort. Starla Gustafson (Lilburn, Ga.) notched 39 assists and three service aces.

The Lady Paladins (11-8, 6-1 SoCon) were led by Abby Simon, who tallied 18 kills and 15 digs. Laura Bush added 17 kills and 15 digs in the win. Simon scored 10 of 18 kills in the first two games. Appalachian returns to action on Oct. 5 as it hosts Wofford at the Holmes Center, while Furman travels to East Tennessee State for a 1:00p.m. match.
