FURMAN FALLS 3-2 TO GEORGIA SOUTHERN VOLLEYBALL

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Despite taking an early 2-0 match lead, the Furman volleyball team fell 3-2 to the Eagles of Georgia Southern Saturday night at Timmons Arena, and are now 7-5 overall on the year with a 3-4 league record.

Furman won the first two games 30-28 and 30-25, and was up 6-0 in the third when GSU came roaring back to life. When all was said and done, the Eagles had won games three, four and five 32-30, 30-21 and 15-11 to move to 9-6 overall and 6-1 in Southern Conference play.

GSU was paced on the night by Camila Schmitz-Rower, a senior from Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, who tallied 27 kills, a .500 attack percentage, and 16 digs on the night. In addition, reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week Martina Veiglova tallied 22 kills and Megan Lippi totaled a team-high 18 digs.

Junior outside hitter Abby Simon led the Furman charge with 19 kills, while Laura Bush totaled a team-high 18 digs and added 11 kills of her own. Rosey Cashman and Amber Montague also totaled 11 kills on the night, while Simon claimed 15 digs and Cashman, Laura Hooks, and Carrie Rowley each added 11 digs.

Furman will face the Spartans of UNC Greensboro Thursday night at 7 p.m. in a match that was originally slated for September 11. The GSU Eagles will face Wofford Sunday at noon in the Benjamin Johnson Arena.
