Furman Falls 3-1 To College of Charleston

Charleston, SC The College of Charleston volleyball team used a season-high 16 kills by Stephanie Ballard to take the Furman Paladins 3-1 in Southern Conference action Friday evening at the John Kresse Arena. The win gives the Cougars their second eight-game winning streak of the season.

Furman (9-6, 5-5) was on fire the first game, nailing 19 kills of 32 attacks for a .531 hitting percentage, to take the 30-26 win. The second game saw the Cougars (18-2, 9-1) hold the Paladins to just seven kills as they tallied 15 off 26 attempts to take the 30-12 win. Charleston won the next game by a score of 30-25, off a match-high 20 kills, and took the fourth and final game 30-16.

Ballard's 16 kills led the team while Mary Sabatino's 20 digs was the high. Laura Bush led Furman with 15 kills, and Rosey Cashman's 13 digs was first in the squad.

Furman stays in town to face The Citadel Oct. 13 in a 6:00 PM match, while Charleston takes the weekend off before hosting Charleston Southern Oct. 16, at 7:00 PM.
