FURMAN DOWNS APPALACHIAN STATE 3-0

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team moved to 6-1 on the year and 2-1 in the Southern Conference with a 3-0 victory over Appalachian State on Saturday.

Junior Laura Bush recorded a team-high 12 kills and Carrie Rowley tallied 10 digs to lead Furman in the win. Furman dominated game one with a 30-15 decision, but struggled with the serve receive in the next two games to pull out closer wins of 30-21 and 30-28.

The Mountaineers were paced on the day by Claire Reynolds' 10 kills, while Karen Nielson contributed five of Appalachian State's 12 service aces. Amber Montague topped the Furman service effort with a season-high six service aces.

With the loss, Appalacian State falls to 0-10 on the year and 0-4 in league play. Both teams will be in action again on Tuesday, when ASU plays at East Tennessee State, and the Lady Paladins play at Wofford. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m.
