FURMANšS DENISON A BYERS POSTGRADUATE FINALIST

Furman hurdler Ginger Denison (Greensboro, N.C.) is one of six finalists for the NCAAšs Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship, it was announced on Wednesday.

The six finalists - three male and three female - will have their final interviews in April and two will receive the prestigious $12,500 scholarship. The awards were established in 1988 to recognize the contributions of the former NCAA executive director by encouraging excellence in academic performance by student athletes. Denison is a senior chemistry major who was chosen as an Academic All-American by USA Today.

The Byers award recipients must have a 3.5 grade point average, show evidence of superior character and leadership,and demonstrate that participation in athletics has been a positive influence on personal and intellectual development.
