Furman Lady Paladin Cross Country Claims Davidson Open Title, Men Finish Fourth

Davidson, North Carolina -- The Furman women's cross country team placed five runners in the top nine on their way to the team title at the Davidson Open Saturday morning in Davidson, N.C.

Juniors Whitney Sharp and Carly Smith paced the Lady Paladin effort finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Brittany Thompson, Katie Poole and Molly Mungovan also grabbed top ten finishes as the Lady Paladins topped Davidson and Charlotte for the team victory.

Davidson's Kelly Fillnow won the individual title, finishing the 5K course in 19:05

The Furman men's team placed fourth led by a third place finish by senior Kevin Crosby. Sophomore Tyler Johnson, the winner last week at the Milliken Invitational finished fifth in 26:25.

East Tennessee State finished first in the men's event, while Ed Schlichter claimed individual honors with a time of 26:11 in the 8K event.

Furman's cross country teams return to action next Saturday at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
