Furman Cross Country Sweeps The Citadel Invitational

Charleston, South Carolina -- The Furman men's and women's cross country teams claimed first place finishes at The Citadel Invitational Saturday at James Island County Park in Charleston, S.C.

Sophomore Tyler Johnson took the individual title in the men's 8K with a time of 26:38.69. Mitch Gober also claimed a top 10 finish coming home seventh in 27:27.92. The Citadel finished second and the College of Charleston third in the 10 team field.

In the women's 5K race, Furman placed five runners in the top nine spots to take first place ahead of College of Charleston and Carson Newman. Molly Mungovan paced the Lady Paladins with a second place showing, while Whitney Sharp and Carly Smith finished third and fourth, respectively.

The win was the Lady Paladins' fourth in its first four meets of the 2003 season.

Furman's cross country teams return to action on October 11, when they host the Furman Invitational at the Furman Golf Course.
