FURMAN SET TO HOST ANNUAL INVITATIONAL TRACK MEET
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Track and field programs from five universities and 11 high schools will take part in the Jack In the Box Furman Invitational Track Meet, slated for this Saturday, April 5, at the Irwin Belk Complex/Kelsey-West Track, on the campus of Furman University.
The Invitational, now in its fifth year, will feature a high school competition beginning at 8:00 Saturday morning. Eleven high schools, including Broome, Byrnes, Eastside, Greenville, Travelers Rest, and Wade Hampton will take part in the meet, which has six field events and 11 running events each for the boys and girls divisions.
Field event competition in the collegiate division will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, with running events starting at 2:30 p.m. The College of Charlestonıs womenıs track team will compete along with menıs and womenıs teams from Furman, Davidson, The Citadel, and Wofford. The meet is scheduled to conclude with the 4x400m relay, slated for 5:20 for the women and 5:25 for the men. There will be no team scoring.
The Lady Paladin effort will be highlighted by Candii Woodson, who runs the 100m and 200m dashes and Bev Roberts, who is coming off a second place finish in the Emory Classic 1500m run. On the menıs side, the Paladins will look to junior Kevin Crosby, who has an excellent chance of winning the 5000m run, and reigning Southern Conference outdoor javelin champion Regan LeBlanc, who won the Emory Classic with a throw of 180ı1².
