FURMAN CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS PLACE SIXTH,FOURTH AT NAVY INVITATIONAL

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland -- Furman's men's and women's cross country teams recorded finishes of sixth and fourth, respectively, in the Navy Invitational Saturday in Annapolis, Md.

Junior Kevin Crosby (Matthews, N.C.) paced the Paladins to a score of 160 with a 13th-place time of 25:39.73 over the 8K course. Matt Goodwin (Greenville, S.C.) placed 25th in 25:54.81, Grady Powell (Erie, Pa.) was 39th in 26:26.21, and Ben Whitaker (Brimingham, Ala.) took 45th in 26:43.77. Freshman Tyler Johnson (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounded out the Paladin scorers with a 47th-place finish and 26:46.44 time.

The Lady Paladins were led by sophomore Whitney Sharp, who completed the 5K course in 19:29.69 and took 13th individually, while leading Furman to a 129 point total. Other Furman scorers were Bev Roberts in 25th (19:57.75), Brittany Thompson in 30th (20:05.64), Carly Smith in 35th (20:13.36) and Rebekah Potts in 45th (20:29.09).

The Furman cross country team will return to action next Saturday at the Pre-Southern Conference meet in Charleston, S.C.
