FURMAN'S STACKHOUSE LEADS LADY PALADINS TO VICTORY; SETS THREE MEET MARKS AND ONE SCHOOL RECORD, NAMED MVP

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman senior Julie Stackhouse (Hayesville, N.C.) was named State Farm Most Valuable Performer at the Furman Invitational Track Meet on Saturday, winning five events, while setting three meet records and a new school standard. The Citadel's Jeff Witherspoon was also tabbed as MVP after winning the 100m and 200m dash while setting a new meet mark in the 200m.

The Furman women won every running event but one on the day and six of eight field events to earn the Furman Invitational team title with 218 points. Davidson came in second at 107, while The Citadel took third with 97, and Wofford placed fourth with 54. In the men's competition The Citadel took Invitational honors with 173 points, while Furman finished second at 87 and Wofford was third at 31.

Stackhouse alone was a part of 45 total points, winning the high jump with a new meet mark of 5'2", taking the 100m hurdles in 15.70, winning the long jump with a mark of 15'6-1/4", and winning the 800m run with a meet and school record time of 2:11.41. In addition, Stackhouse anchored the 4x400m relay squad, which also set a new meet record with a time of 4:00.07

Other outstanding Furman performances included a meet record of 25.10 in the 200m run by sophomore Candii Woodson and a first-place showing of 12.75 in the 100m dash. In addition, field athlete Pam Truman took honors in the shot put, with a throw of 37'4" and in the discus with a flight of 107'1".

On the men's side, only Witherspoon's 200m mark set a new meet standard, but Furman sophomore Kevin Crosby won the 1500m run by more than 10 seconds with a time of 3:57.00.
