Furman Wins Catamount Invitational
Braley Sets Personal Best


CULLOWHEE, North Carolina -- Furman's men's and women's track teams got the 2000 season off to a successful start with a pair of victories at the Catamount Invitational in Cullowhee, N.C. In addition, Furman senior Jill Braley won the women's race with a mark of 17:49, the sixth fastest time in the history of the Catamount meet, and a personal best for Braley in collegiate competition.

Braley won the Western Carolina meet by almost two minutes over teammate Lynley Roberts, who placed second with a time of 19:31 over the 5K course, while Lady Paladin Lory Gray placed sixth in 19:43.

In the men's competition, Tim Briles led the Paladins with a third-place showing and 19:15 time over the 6K course. Teammate Matthew Goodwin took seventh in 20:00 even, while Grady Powell placed eighth, also in 20:00.

The Paladins will compete at the Winthrop Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 16, in Rock Hill, S.C.
