WILLIAM AND MARY MEN, N.C. STATE MEN AND WOMEN, AND UNC CHAPEL HILL WOMEN CLINCH SOUTHEAST REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY QUALIFIERS

GREENVILLE, South Carolina--The Cross Country squads of William and Mary men, N.C. State men and women, and the Chapel Hill women will all be competing in the upcoming NCAA National Championships, due to their top finishes in the Southeast Regionals held at Furman on Saturday.

The top four finishers in the college men's and women's races will be joining the Southeast teams in the National Championships. In the men's division, Terry Brennan from Duke won the men's 10k race with a time of 30:37, while teammate Sean Kelly placed second with a 30:46 time. William and Mary was led by the third place finish of Ed Moran with 30:47, allowing two other runners on unqualified teams to advance. Justin England(30:48) of East Carolina and Bob Theile(30:50) of the University of Virginia picked up the fourth and fifth place finishes.

The Division I women's event, won by UNC Chapel Hill, was led by the first place finish of Shalene Flanagan (20:51), and the fifth place finish of Kim Timberlake(21:41). The four runners on unqualified teams that will compete in the Nationals represent four different schools in the Southeast Region. Duke's Shella Agrawal qualified with a second place finish with 21:11, Sara Day(21:27) of Wake Forest placed third, Mari-Elena Calle(21:36) of Virginia Commonwealth placed fourth, and sixth place finisher Mary J. Harrelson from Appalachian State qualified with a 21:41 time. Jill Braley led the Furman Lady Paladin squad placing 32nd with a 22:36 time.
