FURMAN HOSTS CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL
GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman Cross Country teams placed in the top five in both collegiate races at the 27th annual Furman Invitational on Saturday.
The Furman Men's Cross Country Team finished 5th among nineteen teams, behind the lead of Daniel Hughes who finished 39th overall. This is the second consecutive top finish for Hughes who placed 2nd in the Citadel Invitational last weekend. Following Hughes, and finishing in the top 50 were Yuri van der Heijden finishing 42nd and Tim Briles finishing 50th. The Paladins scored a total of 173 points.
The Lady Paladin runners came in 3rd of 22 teams, placing two runners in the top ten. Jill Braley finished 7th in race with her career fastest time of 18:36, making this her third top ten finish of her first season in collegiate cross country. Following Braley was Dana Smith who also posted a career best, finishing 10th with a time of 18:46. The Paladins placed six runners in the top 50, ending their race with 97 points.
The University of Tennessee finished first in the men's collegiate bracket, while Western Kentucky finished first for the women. Brookwood won the girl's j.v. race with 25 points, while Farragut took the j.v. boys title with 46. In the High School division, Oak Ridge won the varsity girl's race with 64 points, while Watauga scored 125 and winning the boy's.
