NC STATE QUALIFIES IN BOTH MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Wolfpack of North Carolina State won the NCAA Southeast Region men's cross country championship Saturday at Furman, and placed second in the women's race to earn a pair of NCAA automatic bids to the National Championship, Nov. 22, at Indiana University. In addition, William and Mary earned the second men's bid, while the University of North Carolina advanced with a victory in the women's championship.

Individually, James Madison University's David Spiller and Benjamin Cooke, UNC Charlotte's Kenneth Svendsen, and Eastern Kentucky's James Mutuse were awarded automatic individual bids, while VCU's Maria Elena Calle, Wake Forest's Janelle Kraus, Appalachian State's Mary Jayne Harrelson, and UNC Charlotte's Kelly Travis earned individual berths in the women's competition.

Because the NCAA will award 12 at-large bids, there is still a chance for JMU's men and Duke's women to advance to the National Championship based on their third place finishes at Regionals. The Furman men were 13th with 404 points, while the Lady Paladin women placed 16th with a total of 426.
